Holy cow to yourselves !!!!!
We were speechless as well after this unbelievable, incredible and amazing weekend. (and we still are J)
The convention 2007 was our first convention and very very special to us. Because of the fantastic memories of 2007 we were so much looking forward to the 2009 Convention, but to be honest, we did not expect this weekend to be very much different because in our opinion it couldn’t get any better.
But we were amazed that the atmosphere seemed to be somehow magic this year, I couldn’t believe what happened (with and) around me.
It must be amazing for you, to be on stage and see, hear and feel what was going on.
But to be part of this amazing crowd, was something I never experienced before (not at a ‘normal’ Marillion gig or in 2007) and it was fantastic !!
I don’t know if you have felt it, but every night some strange kind of vibe was building up towards 8.30 pm, getting stronger and stronger and than came to an outburst as soon as you came on stage and lasted until you left. Next, the whole fantastic atmosphere spread out all over Center Parcs during the rest of the night.
The emotions right after the final of Sunday night went sky high for so many people. The happiness that it was so unimaginably fantastic but also the awareness that it was over made that double feeling come out. We had been counting the months, weeks, hours for so long and this weekend went by so quick, like in a blink of an eye.
And then it was monday morning, and it was raining, the weather was how we felt (like 2 years ago).
It was difficult to go back home, to leave old and new friends, to leave this special Neverland and to arrive at home and try to explain to ‘normal’ people what we experienced. We gave up explaining, it is not possible, it can’t be explained in words if you were not a part of this. There was so much fantastic music, joy, sun, happiness, emotions, laughter, love etc. you can’t explain.
Last year in June, we got married, with the words from The Other Half on our wedding card, with ‘the other half’ written in our wedding rings and it was a wonderful day and it should be the most beautiful day of your life. But……(and we both agree on this) these 3 days were the best days of our lives (so far….) so what I’m trying to say from the beginning: THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!
I would like to say so much more but I hope and think I’ve made my point.
The only things we regret are: not being brave enough to ask if we could take a picture with you guys when you passed by, we didn’t want to bother you, that it was only a weekend an not a week, that we didn’t bring a chair because standing for 6 hours for 3 nights in a row was an attack on our old backs :-), that we didn’t go to all the previous conventions.
A big thanks to everyone who helped to organize this weekend, especially to Lucy and Stephanie and also for keeping their promise about the girly t-shirts, they are fantastic both the black and grey!!!
A big thanks to Phil for being every gig and, especially this weekend, as enthusiastic on stage as if it was his first day at work (I was brave enough to tell himself, but I want to let you know that we enjoy watching him as well).
And thanks to all the other people who made this convention possible.
As I mentioned in a previous mail, I love you to death for doing what you are doing and hope you will be doing this for many, many, many years !!!!
Lots of love and a big hug from Holland and have a fantastic time in Montreal!

This Weekend was especially memorable for me, because it was the first time I saw you guys playing live. And traveling across the whole of Europe was really worth it!
I’ve been a fan of yours for more than 10 years now and all these years I watched your DVDs wishing I was somewhere in the audience, so, at the Friday show I felt like I was inside a DVD! Unforgettable feeling!
I could write how grateful I am to you for hours, but I’ll just end up by thanking you for being so great, honest and natural for all these years, for making this convention possible and for the stupid smile I couldn’t get rid off after each of the shows.

We would like to take this opportunity to THANK YOU all for a fabulous weekend. You are a brilliant team!!!!
Our weekend was made even more special with having H come to our chalet for coffee and also Frenchie. Please thank Frenchie for taking some brilliant photos.
We cannot get over how quickly the weekend went and look forward to the next one.
Please THANK all band members for giving their all, especially appreciated after such
a long tour beforehand.

No other band has touched me like Marillion. They are my band & I love their music. They have given me so many wonderful moments & their music has accompanied from my bedroom in Antrim in 1987, through University and into married life and 2 kids here in Holland. As I've got older, their lyrics & music have taken on new meaning for me as a husband & a dad. I love going to the Marillion weekend. It's great to be amongst kindred spirits from all over the world. The band were obviously moved by the wonderful reception they received from the faithful.
Some of my favourite moments were watching the crowds clapping during the songs. We didn't need Pete to help us on our way. We knew when to clap along with the band & the type of clapping that was required. Whether the What Would You Do clap during Easter or the castanet clapping at the beginning of The Invisible Man. The Italians have a good word for it. Sympatico.
Thank you to Marillion for all the euphoric moments they gave me during the 3 shows at the weekend & thanks for being there for me in good & bad times over the past 22 years.

Stevie Wonder is great. I mean he is REALLY great. Please remember this...
In short this was the greatest weekend of my life. I have lived on this planet for forty years, I've seen and done quite a lot of things, including two previous conventions, but this is the best 48/72 hrs I have ever experienced.
Lucy wanted the fans to let you know our feelings directly, as some of you don't visit the forum. That is easy to do. But it's also impossible too: impossible to really tell you what you mean to us and why. For me it's not the albums, or the gigs, it's the essence (to steal a phrase). The ripples that you guys create lift every soul on this gigantic millpond.
THAT is why the Marillion World is a little piece of Utopia that will exist forever. You do something extraordinary. I don't think people love you because you are rock stars; I think they love you because you mine the deepest, most fundamental truths at the hearts of each of us: that we love, hurt, give, take, are base yet miraculous, that we need a platform for expression, that we are capable of the most bewildering things. The end of Sunday night's gig was no accident. It wasn't the beer, it wasn't tiredness, or the bonhomie.
It was The Truth. It was the feeling that we had arrived at something more than life, time, togetherness. And you did that. All five of you.
Thank you SO MUCH for a wonderful weekend. I will never forget it.
And Stevie Wonder? A genius. A man who I would walk a thousand miles to see perform live. His 39th birthday gig of 1989 remained the defining performance I had witnessed - four hours straight with people breakdancing in the aisles, EVERYBODY on their seats. That is until this Saturday just gone, at 11.15pm.

I wanted to write to let you know I thought Port Zelande was superbly organised – especially presuming you do it with not a lot of resources. It was my first Marillion weekend and attendance at subsequent ones is guaranteed. Naturally I thoroughly appreciated the opportunity to be at sound checks and experience a gig from the side of the stage. The idea for my next photo competition entry is already forming!
Thanks for a truly memorable weekend.

I really can’t thank everyone involved enough. The set-lists were excellent and my voice is hoarse from singing and of course the music is central to the experience but it’s the little things round the edges that make it so special. The humour of the band at the Q&A, the fun of taking part in the quiz, meeting up with people that you see every year or so but whom you feel you have known for years.
I’m sure that you guys are very proud of what you have created ... and so you should be.

We want to thank you giving us the best weekend in our lives. And it’s not only for us but everyone we spoken. We left with tears in our eyes.
It so strange and difficult to be back home, we have to kick the habit.
It surpassed for us the 2007 weekend, the music choice unbelievably good every evening, the sound, the light show, the enthusiasm of the band, the Center Parcs, everything was so professional.
I'm looking forward to see the dvd. With all the equipment and attention it will surely surpass the 2007 dvd.

Last weekend we were part of the Marillion Convention. It was really an unforgettable experience!!!!!!!!!!
The performance was really so great, words cannot describe that! We do not often meet other people who like Marillion (we can't imagine it) and this weekend we heard Marillion everywhere. From the other houses, in the restaurants etc. So that was a strange experience for us. We feel very privileged to hear the beauty of the music from Marillion.
Please carry on playing great music!!

I just wanted to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the weekend at The Netherlands

Just wanted to say a massive thanks to you all for what can only be described as an amazing weekend. It was really fantastic and we both had a awesome time. I have seen you over 40 times which is not bad for a 27 year old and they are three of the best shows I have seen you do if not the best :) I have to say I love Happiness is the Road and think Somewhere Else is one of your best albums and I'm still playing it to death. Also wanted to say a huge thankyou for the photo opportunity even though I was too shy to really talk AGAIN!! :) Look forward to seeing the picture. Brought loads of merch and it all looks and sounds great! Thanks again.

Thank you for the best weekend, thank you for the music and thank you for all the happy times you have brought full stop to myself and many countless other fans from all over the world.
When you say "it's like having the family around" I genuinely believe it feels just like that, all those fans gathered together at the Center Parcs in Port Zelande and not one bit of trouble, TRULY AMAZING!

I thought I'd drop you a line to say a big thank you to you for all of the hard work you clearly put into three brilliant nights
I'd also like to particularly mention Pete and Rob's guitar duets - they were absolutely fantastic. I loved the Wishing Tree as well and have pre-ordered the album, so thank you as well to Steve R and the rest of the band. Hannah and Jo have beautiful voices which work so well together and I love the atmosphere that the Wishing Tree creates.
More generally the four members of my chalet and other people I chatted to had a great time at Port Zelande Center Parcs. The staff were so friendly and helpful, in the main tent, in the restaurants and in the shop. And the people managing the shuttle service were lovely too - when we caught the bus home the man in charge said 'Welcome!' with a big grin on his face, and then when everyone was on board he got on and said he hoped we'd all had a great weekend and enjoyed our stay, and that he hoped he'd see us again at another one - it's not much I know, but little touches like that made such a difference.
Someone passed a little book around on the bus on the way back to the airport, for everyone on the bus to sign and write a few words - I wrote 'All I can say is WOW!! Roll on 2011!'. I think if anyone is stressed out or depressed they should be prescribed the Marillion convention as therapy! ;-). I hope you all enjoyed it as much and that there will be another convention in 2011, either in Holland again or elsewhere - wherever and whenever it is I'll be there!
Elaine Goodall - UK |

Thank you for the fantastic weekend in Holland. You really did three amazing sets and I am still blown away by the loving and energetic atmosphere from the weekend. This time was beyond everything! :-)
It's been almost 25 years now and you are still a big source of inspiration in my life. Thank you for keeping up the good work. Thank you for not compromising and daring to break new musical grounds. Thank you for being the wonderful radiant beings you are. Essence!
Joachim Rundgren - Sweden |

I've made many friends through Marillion over the years and the
conventions are a great way to meet everyone and hang out around the
music we love. Another one to remember.

Great time. Came from Canada (won't be making the trip to Montreal. :-(
Thought the setlists were great, the shows were brilliant. Well done.

Apart from falling off a tandem, the most memorable bits for me were the three FANTASTIC sets that you played. In particular the Saturday set will live long as one of the best Marillion performances I've ever seen (27 years since my first). Starting off with This Train Is My Life, you seemed to have chosen just the right songs, in the right order for a wonderful experience.
You probably guessed our enjoyment by the ovations you were getting between songs!
Lights - great
Stage - great
Sound - great
Music - better than ever, AWESOME in fact.
Thanks for all the good times this weekend. (Mark - sorry for nearly knocking you off your bike.)
Simon Thompson - UK |

Many, many thanks for a fantastic weekend of exceptional performances from all of you. You are truly masters of your craft. I never expected you to top the 2007 weekend as those three nights were some of the best I've ever seen you do, but you raised the bar again and delivered three sets that surpassed any that came before. I hope you enjoyed performing them as much as we enjoyed listening.
The set lists were inspired - Saturday's was my personal favourite but only by the tiniest margin over Sundays. It was great to hear so many rarely played tracks done so well. I know of no other band who would put so much passion and effort into rehearsing and performing 50 or so tracks to such a high standard just to give such an experience to your fans. Words cannot express how much this means.
Now, more than ever, Marillion give the best return on investment I know of
Alan Bainton UK |

Three of the best gigs I have seen ever! The third night was simply stunning in particular Interior lulu.
I love the whole vibe of the weekend, if only everything in life was so cool.
Hope you did not mind the farting up of your songs for the quiz!
Scott Evans ( a cakeyboy) - UK |

Wow. Filled to overflowing with all kinds of feelings after the
weekend at Port Zelande. Bit hard to know what to do with them all --
it's a good thing. You're probably one of the only organizations that
could use the phrase "find a better way of life" in your Marketing and PR and deliver on the promise.
Cal Smith - Netherlands |

To Stephanie – and Lucy – and all the team at Marillion for A FANTASTIC WEEKEND.
It must take soooo much hard work/organisation to get it all together and we appreciate that. Hugely.
BIG thanks from me, and all of the Pumpkins.

Huge huge hugs and thanks to Stephanie, Lucy and the team for sorting everything out for us. The fantastic and tranquil location of our holiday cottage was much appreciated, just a stone’s throw from the beach, which we enjoyed the peacefulness of early Saturday and Sunday. Beautiful, and the weather too, nice job there!! J
Friday night surprised me, having been fairly late in discovering the genius of Marillion (Marbles), these were tracks I probably haven’t played very often, although I was familiar with most of them through hearing them at gigs over the last few years. I don’t think I had ever listened to the entire album played in order, but what a night!! The atmosphere, the buzz, the magic, call it what you will, was there the moment the band arrived on stage, kicked into the opening track, and stayed for the entire weekend. Stand out tracks for me that night were Easter, of course, always special, King of Sunset Town and Season’s End.
Saturday morning, woke up early with sun streaming in through the windows, I just knew then it was going to be one of the extraordinary days.
Sitting on the beach we recharged ourselves in the peace and sunshine, and all weariness from the night before left us. That evening we got to the venue in good time to grab a bench at the back to watch The Wishing Tree, lovely. I had been lucky enough to see them in Tring on the previous Monday, but the rest of the party hadn’t been able to make it, so it was an extra special treat for them to see the band live for the first time. We all agreed that we’d look forward to catching them live again soon… hopefully J
Then the countdown began. Sometimes an idea sounds great on paper, but ultimately disappoints, not so the case here. I loved not knowing what was coming next, especially when it was announced that it would be based on the year a track was written rather than released, genius. Starting with one of my favourite tracks on Happiness, This Train, followed by Somewhere Else, and drifting through Genie, When I Meet God, Cathedral Wall, A Party, to name but a few personal highlights for me, and ending up with Garden Party, well what a ride, Fantastic!!
And then there was Sunday night…, well they are always a bit special at these weekend aren’t they. Just when you think they can’t possibly top what has gone before, you go and do it again.
Personal highlights of the evening…, everything, the songs, the lighting and effects, the confetti cannon (how much confetti!!!) the people, the surprises, and for me the three most emotional songs ever finishing off an amazing weekend.
Other pluses from the weekend, Seats at the back were very much appreciated for watching support bands. New merchandise, lovely, just about managed to cram the suitcase shut on Monday morning, the weather again, really how do you do it? I am starting to believe this Rothers is God thing to be more than just a rumour, someone is definitely on our side with that one. Great and varied support acts, loved the musical whimsy. The band on top comedy form during the quiz final and Q&A session, and once again that very special warm fuzzy feeling of family that just embraces the whole weekend.
Many thanks for all the hard work and effort that goes into these weekends by everyone. It much very much appreciated and is part of what makes Marillion truly special, and much more than just a band who write amazing music
Roll on 2011, and have a blast in Montreal!
Laura Warwick - UK |

I don't know why it took until the fifth to get me to a convention. It was my first and I'll not have a better holiday all year (unless i plan my summer break around any summer appearances you plan!).
Where can i book for the next one?
Thank you again, it was an amazing experience.I think all could see what you have to put in to deliver such a weekend (and that goes for your backroom team too). Thank You.

I still am on cloud nine after my first Convention.
I enjoyed from the first to the last minute.
The shows were simply fantastic and more than once you brought a tear ( even more) to my eyes and I really am not known for that.
When I started to listen Marillion and heard about the Family I thought that this was not possible, a fanclub is a fanclub and not a family.
About six years later I learned that it is very well possible and I am glad to be part of this family.
Last but not least, I am very proud and grateful to say that, during the six year I am a part of this all, some other fans became good friends, first through the forum and later in real life as well. I shared the cottage with some of them and it was fantastic. The Weekend was not just the music...it was so much more!!
Christine Westbroek - Netherlands |

I dragged my girlfriend (initially she was a bit reluctant) to this along with both of my sisters, one of whom is an existing fan... 2 newbies in total. They were all blown away by your performances over the 3 nights. The newbies are now fans who can't stop listening to Marillion since they got back. I have followed the band since 1984 and have been to every convention and you never cease to amaze. Just when I think you can't get better (2007 in Holland being a good example)... You do it!! I am really proud to be part of this family :-)
