Marillion Weekend 2003 Fan Reviews
John Patterson
I just wanted to add another mail to the pile of "wow, what a great weekend" posts, mostly to say thanks to any and all involved in making it what it was - the band, Lucy and the Racket staff, and those of you who were there and made it such a great atmosphere! It really felt like a hell of a lot of thought had gone into the set lists, missing out some of the 'staples' and including loads of stuff we hardly ever get to hear, but still making three very different but excellent shows. The post-weekend blues have certainly hit pretty hard, and adjusting back to being in the real world again hasn't been much fun - although listening to Popular Music and watching bits of the new DVD set have certainly helped... both are thoroughly recommended! Looking forward to the next one already...

I just wanted to say what a fantastic weekend and that it was great to see again those of you I saw. I didn't think I was going to be too depressed [about leaving] this time since I have other things coming up... well, let's just say I was dead wrong. I can't even watch my Wish You Were Here DVD because I keep tearing up. This band and you people are just the best. It's always a shame to have to come back to the real world. So, thanks to everyone - the people are half of the fun - and here's to hoping for another one, and another one, and another one, until I feel like I'm too old for it (never!).

I returned to Boston a few days ago from my very first Marillion convention, and I just had to write and offer a heartfelt thank you to the Best Band in the World. It never ceases to amaze me how you perform with such depth, soul, and connection with the audience. I'm still catching my breath. Really, then, this is a thank you for continuing to be Marillion, for never giving up, for never compromising, for continuing to produce music with more depth, intelligence, introspection, class, passion, and musicianship than any other band I've ever heard. I simply can't express to you how much your music has meant to me over the years. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Wow, wow, wow. Can I take this opportunity to thank you all for the superbly crafted show that entertained my family.... We all thought it was superb. You have won over my kids - 'YOU'RE KOOOOOL' they say! Please put on the site next years weekend plans... or will we have to be patient? My two kids, who walked away with signed T-shirts, have become hardened [fans]... Thank-you for being so good to us and all your fans... Highlight of my year!

In addition to all the top-notch excellence that *is* a Marillion weekend, I also got to enjoy the huge smiles from my kids (9 and 7 years) at their FIRST Marillion gigs ever :) And during the day there was tons of fun stuff to keep the kids (and me) occupied. After the Sunday night show, my daughter saw Steve Rothery wandering the crowd... After shaking his hand she proclaimed "I'm never washing this hand again!" She's got the right attitude. Coming to England and attending their first shows are memories the kids will always treasure! And I thought it was quite good as well!

I have to admit that though I do love Marillion live gigs above all, I've never understood the strain and drain they cause to certain persons. That is until the Sunday night gig...Wonderful, emotional and I'm not sure I'll ever get over it. But at least I'm able to function today. It left me washed out, drained but feeling all warm and dizzy. I [was] grabbed, pummelled, turned inside out and left to dry. That's about as coherent as I can get about it.

Wow, what a weekend! While I was optimistic after reading the late news about check-in opening early, I was blown away to not only arrive to see ZERO queues! So although I don't think we actually got to chat - well done Christine, fantastic job!! The gigs, yep, a real blast and seeing the set lists is bringing it all back. All in all, a real cracker, well organised, and credit to Lucy and all the Webbers, thanks for making it happen.
Jon Collins
Highlights: The overwhelming cheeriness of all you lovely organisers and all the hard effort, and the relief at not having to do any of it - The efficiency of the check-in - bloody marvellous - The knowledge that we can, perhaps, do it all again. There's more, lots more, but that's all I can think of right now!

Well, what can I say that hasn't already been said? I'm now having serious issues with the best Marillion show I've ever witnessed - is it (as it has been for 10 years) the Brave show in Glasgow Barrowlands in '94, or was it that utterly knock out dream set from Sunday? As anyone who saw me afterwards will testify I was totally hyper for hours after that. What a set - what a CROWD! Cry? I bawled my eyes out... The band's patience and grace was as ever endless as they dealt with the endless hordes of fans wanting a bit of their time - massive thanks to Los Marillos for again repaying our faith in spades and big thanks and congrats to Lucy, Christine and all involved in organising - if there were any hitches we didn't see them. The birthday card in my pack was a lovely touch!

It was back to the treadmill of work for me today, so the post-convention blues have really kicked-in. I didn't want to leave and I didn't want it to end so quickly (or so it seemed). I'd never seen Marillion live before anywhere, I kind of already knew they would have something rare and unique, but I was still shocked by the power of all those songs that I have lived with for the last ten years played with such passion. Thanks so much to the band and those behind the scenes that made this event happen. It was a weekend that I will never forget and my mission in life will be to attend as many future Marillion shows as possible. I could ramble on and on but I'll end by saying I can't wait for number four, it won't come soon enough.

Our first family vacation in 4 years and what a great way to spend it at the Marillion weekend 2005.  We traveled from Iceland to Stansted to Minehead a long journey but well worth the trip, the kids 10 and 14 are already asking when is the next one. Of course the shows were great and a big highlight was meeting the band. Thanks again for doing such a great job at making the weekend a great success. The girls haven't stopped playing Marbles for a week. Then again Marillion is played in my house on a daily basis!

Thanks much for the great weekend at Butlins. I especially wanted to thank the band for playing Ocean Cloud twice. That was a real treat. I couldn't believe it when I heard Steve R. suggest playing it again on stage. Looking forward to next year!

Hope you are all starting to recover. We would like to pass on my thanks to you, the band, Christine and all those concerned with getting the 3rd convention together, it was out of this world! We both met so many wonderful people from all over the world, made a lot of new friends, got to meet the band, listened to some fabulous live music from Marillion and the support bands you invited to attend. Where did you find [the supports], they really were excellent and fitted our taste so well. It was lovely to meet you and the band again, our thanks to all of you for making this a fabulous weekend, and I look forward to the next one.

Thousand million thanks for the weekend. You'll be glad I'm spreading 'the better way of life' with all my pupils at school, so there is another generation of fans coming through. Thanks for all your hard work, great vibes and smiling faces even though you must have been knackered.
Gary Ashton
Just a quick note to thank the band and everybody else who helped putting the weekend together for their efforts and hard work for making it such a success. My wife, my daughter and I had a fantastic time. Hope everyone on the organisational side enjoyed it just as much as the fans.

Minehead weekend - what a cool time we all had. Three fantastic nights of live music - I especially liked the Marbles night and the Sunday night. I'm hooked. As this weekend and the Aylesbury gig, the previous Wednesday, were my first experiences of the band/fan interaction thingy, I must say I was overwhelmed by the genuine warmth and friendliness, as well as the effort that goes into not only the performances, but the meet and greets etc... It was nice to feel kind of looked after by you all. From a very happy, sparkling new fan, Keep beautiful!

Thank you for the most amazing weekend ever!  We had a fantastic time and can't wait for the next one. We thoroughly enjoyed all of the events of the weekend and I especially admire the thought, effort and patience you and your staff put into making the weekend so special for all your fans. You really are passionate about what you do and the atmosphere was electric. Thanks again, it was a weekend I'll never forget.

Just like to say thank you once again for a great weekend. Thank you to all of the band for their hard work and especially finding the time to talk to us all.  Thanks especially to Christine who sorted out all our queries and was so helpful.  Thanks to the members of the Racket Club for their fantastic organisation in the shop and behind the scenes. I think you should all have a long rest now, especially Steve, and look after yourselves.
Ian Bartlett
I just wanted to say a personal thank you for a wonderful weekend. I've been to all three weekend conventions and this was by far the best. Can't really put my finger on why, but I'm sure it boils down to a number of things not least the excellent organisation and planning of the whole thing. It must be a mammoth task, and it must have been an exhausting weekend for you on top of all the pre-planning. Anyway, a big 'thank you' to Lucy and Christine, plus everyone else involved in getting the weekend planned and organised as well as to, of course, H, Steve, Mark, Pete and Ian.
Tina & Terry Heffernan
It is Monday March 14 th and Tina & I are sitting at home with mixed feelings. We are emotionally and physically drained, yet strangely euphoric after the weekend. We are missing all of our friends that we have met this year and in previous years - all through the love of the same band and their music! Heartfelt thanks to all involved in organising the weekend, be their involvement small or huge! How do you do it? Having attended all three Marillion weekends, you have once again surpassed yourselves and produced a weekend that topped all other previous ones. There was something for everyone and having spotted fans with an age range of 0 - 70 I think all enjoyed the festivities. What a joy to see so many smiling faces! The band were once again magnificent to us the fans and we were spoilt with a musical history that is second to absolutely none! Fans from 38 countries cannot all be wrong - keep the faith and so will we the fans! Well done, and a heartfelt thanks from just two of the extended Marillion family!
David Nias
Wow, what a weekend !!! I am sure you will hear this thousands of times over! But if anything else I just wanted to add my weight to the delight of that experience. Thank-you Lucy, Erik and of course the band and all others connected with its TOTAL SUCCESS.
Steve Gutteridge
I loved the [Sunday] gig especially. There's no way that you could ever play a whole set of slow tunes at a normal gig, so a convention like this is the only time you're ever going to hear that.
